March 14, 2026, 06:45 AM ETThe first week of NFL free agency has been nothing short of exhilarating. As soon as the negotiating period kicked off on Monday, teams quickly began securing deals with top free agents. By the time free agency officially commenced on Wednesday, many of the players featured in our top 100 free agent rankings were already signed.
Some franchises made more impactful signings than others, and after a few days of intense activity, we’ve identified the early winners of free agency. Here are five teams that have significantly bolstered their rosters, along with their best and most underrated signings.
1. Carolina Panthers
Best Signing: Jaelan Phillips, LB
Phillips, 26, was a highly debated edge rusher in this free agent class. After joining the Eagles midseason, he recorded two sacks and 27 pressures, showcasing his potential for growth. The Panthers desperately needed an edge rusher after finishing 28th in sacks last season. Although Phillips’ four-year, $120 million contract was steep, the team had the cap space to make it work. Most Underrated Signing: Devin Lloyd, LB
Lloyd has emerged as a top linebacker with the Jaguars, accumulating 3.5 sacks and 194 tackles since 2024. The Panthers secured him for a three-year, $45 million deal, which is a bargain compared to his expected market value.Other Moves: Signed OT Rasheed Walker from the Packers, QB Kenny Pickett from the Raiders, C Luke Fortner from the Saints, and WR John Metchie III from the Jets. Lost C Cade Mays to the Lions and RB Rico Dowdle to the Steelers.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
Best Signing: Kenneth Walker III, RB
The Chiefs needed an explosive running back, and Walker fits the bill with his three-year, $43.05 million contract. Last season, Chiefs running backs struggled to break off long runs, while Walker had 12 runs over 20 yards, showcasing his potential to elevate the offense. Most Underrated Signing: Khyiris Tonga, DT
Tonga was a key player for the Patriots’ run defense, boasting an impressive 83% stop rate. The Chiefs signed him for three years at $21 million, adding depth to their defensive line.Other Moves: Re-signed TE Travis Kelce, signed S Alohi Gilman, and lost QB Gardner Minshew to the Cardinals.
3. New England Patriots
Best Signing: Romeo Doubs, WR
Doubs is a versatile receiver who can fill the void left by Stefon Diggs. He ranked 20th among wide receivers in ESPN’s receiver scores last season and could become the Patriots’ top target. Most Underrated Signing: <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_Tomado de https://www.espn.com/
